Teens’ Top Ten is a list created by kids ages 12 to 18, who nominate and then vote on their favorite books of the previous year. More than 8,000 kids voted this year on the following.

On Friday, my students participated in their first team building/group work challenge by completing the Marshmallow Challenge. Students were put into groups of 4-5 and given 20 pieces of spaghetti, masking, tape, string, a brown paper bag (which held the materials) and a marshmallow. Their goal was to build the tallest freestanding structure (with the marshmallow being on top) they possibly could using as much or as little of the supplies they were given. It was amazing to watch them interact together, build consensus, try their ideas and fail but never give up. The tallest structure of the day ended up being 39 inches but more than anything I know we built a sense of camaraderie and relentless pursuit of solving problems in our class.
